OPEN SESAME

OPEN SESAME
SAYS WHO
SAYS I
SAYS WHY

More than anything I value the expectancies of those whom I have learnt to respect

For I have learnt that mutual respect is based on
unconditional
acceptance
of who I am
and of what I am doing
and in that order

Such acceptance creates invaluable space for manoeuvre
in which it becomes possible
to embark upon the experiment
that is the process of change

Such is the power of the paradox
from nothing comes everything

(“You don’t have to you know”)
P.S.

Crisis defines a change
for which I have
no immediately available
emotional tool kit
or emotional repertoire

Maybe the tools have never been unpacked maybe
Maybe they have been hung in the wrong place maybe
Maybe they have been labelled by others maybe
Maybe our apprenticeship is incomplete maybe

Insight leads me to the place where I own the crisis as my very own
I cannot change that which I don’t own even if I need to believe the contrary
For living is not fair which is surely fortunate for all of us

(“if there is someone to blame
then you have a claim
and we will find you
someone to blame”)

My emotional life has its origins as much in the survival of the fittest
as my thumb and my exit from the trees
Natural selection demands that practice makes perfect
Or I must line up with the other mammals and wait evolution over the generations.

Change now
Change then change

Open sesame….
